Wondering what exactly a negroni sbagliato with prosecco is?

negroni Sbagliato prosecco

I’m not too proud to admit I hadn’t a notion before.

After that interview with House of the Dragon actors Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke, where they discuss their favourite drinks, D’Arcy’s answer has gone viral. Not so much for the drink itself, but the way they say it.

If you haven’t seen the clip, you can check it out below (or just type it into TikTok and several thousands of edits are bound to come up)(Skip to 1:55). Cooke asks D’Arcy what their drink of choice is, to which they reply, “A negroni.”

Fair enough; Cooke goes to agree with D’Arcy only for them to continue, saying, “sbagliato.” Cooke gives a affirmatory “ooh” just as D’Arcy finishes, “with prosecco in it.”

We’re not really sure why, but there’s something inherently soothing about the way D’Arcy gives their answer, and the internet clearly agrees. It’s quickly become a TikTok sound, and has risen up the ranks as one of my personal favourites (which is no mean feat).

So what the hell is a negroni sbagliato with prosecco? We had to find out.

A typical negroni is a cocktail made from campari, the bitter liqueur; sweet vermouth; and gin. However, a negroni sbagliato, which this website calls “a broken Negroni” is made with sparkling wine instead of gin. Enter the prosecco. Or champagne, if you’re feeling especially fancy. A negroni is then topped with orange garnish, to add some fruity sweetness back in.

The Sbagliato can be served on the rocks or up, in a Champagne flute.

Cooke was won over by D’Arcy’s answer anyway, saying, “ooh stunning.” And now we all have to try it.
