Irish People Among Worst In Europe For Checking Social Media While Driving

James Fenton

A new survey of motorists has revealed that Irish people are the second worst in Europe when it comes to checking social media when driving.

The study was carried out by Ipsos Mori on behalf of Aviva and quizzed drivers from seven countries across the continent. The results found that only the Italians (17%) admitted to checking social media while driving more than the Irish (15%).

26% of Irish respondents also owned up to sending text messages while driving compared to just 13% of our counterparts in the UK. A massive 45% of Irish people said they take calls while driving without using a hands-free kit. This number is just 20% in the UK.

In Ireland, this offence leads to penalty points and a fixed fine of €60.
