The nine most scenic places in Ireland to have a drink when restrictions allow

James Fenton

The summer is on the horizon and hopefully (HOPEFULLY!) Ireland’s Covid situation will be stable enough to allow us to enjoy a couple of drinks in our favourite spots around the country.

As the vaccine continues to be rolled out, it got us thinking about where we’d like to be sitting when that first pint hits our lips. While Covid has had a detrimental effect on the hospitality industry, the pub’s place in our culture will remain as important as ever when this is all done.

Thankfully, Ireland’s rugged coastlines and scenic mountain views provide the perfect setting to enjoy a drink in the fresh air when we’re allowed. Here are some of the spots we’re looking forward to revisiting, sooner rather than later.

The Strand, Waterford

On a summer’s day, the sun splits the stone wall down by this Dunmore East spot.

Smugglers Creek, Donegal

At the other end of the country, you can see for miles as you take that long-awaited first sip.

The Blue Light, Dublin

Located in the Dublin Mountains, this spot has gorgeous views over our capital.

Cliff House Hotel, Waterford

While this list is in no particular order, it would be hard to beat the views from this spot on a summer’s day.

Ladies View Café, Kerry

A beautiful stop off point the next time you’re down in The Kingdom.

The Marker Hotel, Dublin

Right in the heart of the city, it’ll be great to be back here for that after-work drink.

O’Dowds, Galway

The seafood restaurant and bar is the perfect spot to take in the stunning surrounds of Connemara.

O’Carroll’s Cove, Kerry

On a summer’s day, you’d almost fell like you were at a beach bar in Spain or Greece.

Monks of Ballyvaughan, Clare

What is it about seafood places and beautiful scenery? Another example here in the Banner County
