By far one of my favourite spots in Galway, this place is a surprisingly well-kept secret considering how good their coffee is.
Located just around the corner from the Salmon Weir Bridge, go early and nab the coveted window seat (gorge views of the River Corrib). Definitely one for the brunchers amongst us; their pancakes and waffles are also some of the best you’ll find in the The City of Tribes.
Java’s Creperie

Any place with ‘creperie’ in the name is going to get a big yes from me. Open until late most nights, Java’s is the perfect place to set up if you’ve got a deadline to meet and can’t hack sitting in the office or the library any longer.
Call in for the coffee, stay for the crepes. The cutest café this side of France.

Urban Grind

A solid choice for coffee snobs in pursuit of the finest brew. Urban Grind is the place for all your coffee related needs including but not limited to 3fe beans, coffee-centred publications, and other brewing apparatus. Their mantra? For the love of coffee. Count me in.

McCambridge’s

McCambridge’s is something of an institution in Galway, and for good reason. Outdoor seating for optimal people-watching, it’s hard not to love this place. Wrap your hands around a mug of the good-stuff and it’s sure to warm your insides (and outsides depending on whether the Galway aimsir cooperates).
Not to mention the take-away sandwich bar downstairs. Coffee and toasties form the ultimate union in my humble opinion.

I was introduced to this little gem by a fellow coffee fiend and have continued to return here ever since. Right in the heart of the city on Shop Street, this place is hard to miss, what with its bright orange shopfront and the hordes of customers usually lining up inside.
Hands down the best coffee in Galway, order the mocha made with coconut milk and thank me later.

Coffeewerk + Press

Coffee from here is easily recognisable by their adorable little takeaway cup adorned with a colourful illustration of the café itself. Plus they have been the recipient of several awards, even named as one of the top 30 cafés in the world from the Financial Times.
Part design-store, part café; Coffeewerk + Press combines art and coffee to showcase some of the best local and international talent. Make sure to venture upstairs for a birds-eye view of Quay Street in Galway’s Latin Quarter. Prime Instagram content let me tell you.

Pascal Coffee House

With not one, but two cafés in Galway city, you won’t be stuck when it comes to getting coffee from Pascal’s. The brainchild of Frenchman Pascal, everything gets the personal seal of approval from him, right down to the Spotify playlist.
Buyer beware though, their coffee is strong… four shots of espresso goes into the iced coffee so definitely not for the faint hearted.

Top Shelf

This café does exactly what it says on the tin – it serves coffee that is top shelf quality, located a short walk away from Eyre Square. They also serve some sourdough toasties as well as pastries, ideal for breakfast or lunch.
The prices at Top Shelf are also very reasonable in a time where coffee prices are going through the roof – something to consider during this cost of living crisis that feels never-ending.
Top Shelf opens seven days a week until 3pm.

Coco Café

With three locations dotted all over Galway, Coco café is a great option to check out before heading on a coffee and stroll date, with pals or a significant other.

This bakery and café is a must visit if you’re a fanatic for pastries.
Only open Thursday to Sunday, you’ll want to pay them a visit earlier in the day to not miss out on the daily selection. Magpie comes from the minds of Loam and Éan, so you know they take their food and coffee seriously.

Little Lane

This little café has been knocking around for five years now and is a staple for Galway locals.
They pour specialty coffee using Bailies beans, and also have vegan and gluten free treats available for those with dietary requirements that want a little snack to go with their coffee.
Little Lane also gives a 20c discount for anyone who pops in with a Keep Cup or reusable container – every little helps as they say.

Éan does it all, a one-stop spot for refreshments, whether that be breakfast, lunch, dinner, wine, or the reason we’re all here, coffee.
This little spot comes from the same minds that brought you Loam, a Michelin starred restaurant that closed at the beginning of the year, and Magpie Bakery, mentioned earlier on this list.

This coffee shop and deli is beside Hyde Bar, and serves everything from acai bowls to soup, sandwiches to flatbreads.
They have a gorgeous area to sit in for coffee and chats, or you can opt to take your goodies away.
