Heading To EP But Not Up For Camping? Here’s Where You Deserve To Stay

Megan Cassidy

Electric Picnic just added 40 new acts to the lineup, and we are officially going into planning mode.

*Brief journey back in time* – My first music festival was Oxegen in 2006. I decided that because my tent was SO small, I’d leave my bags outside it while I slept. Yep.

All of my best clothes (yes I brought the BEST of my wardrobe – it was my first festival) were stolen within hours of my arrival, and I decided then and there that I am not cut out for camping.

Which means that at this time of year, I start looking for EP accommodation. With showers. And locks.

If you are of a similar persuasion, I have a fantastic option for you.

The Heritage is legit one of my favourite spots to stay in the midlands. Set in the countryside just outside the pretty village of Killenard in County Laois, it’s just a one-hour drive from Dublin, and a stone’s throw from the Stradbally festival site.

My boyfriend always jokes that I’m a sucker for Trump Tower-esque lobbies, and attributes my love of The Heritage to its insanely grandiose lobby.

A dramatic light-filled four-storey atrium greets you on arrival, with an imposing wrought iron-railed staircase, sparkling crystal chandeliers and gleaming marble floors.

The camera doesn’t even capture it, seriously.

To one side of the lobby is the Arlington Lounge where you can enjoy Afternoon Tea, and beside that is the Arlington Restaurant – a classic and atmospheric dining room that seats up to 130.

Across the lobby is the Slieve Bloom Bar, a lounge with gorgeous views over the Slieve Bloom mountains, with outdoor seating at this time of year.

It’s been brought to my attention that the hotel is currently running a Post-Picnic-Pick-Up package which includes a spa treatment, dinner and an overnight stay in the luxurious deluxe rooms for just €199 for two people sharing.

Less than €100 euro for all of the above is a nuts deal in fairness considering this is usually the price of a treatment alone.

Start with the two hour Spa Experience in their Thermal Suite and a 30 minute ESPA spa treatment, a series of heat, aqua and sensory therapies to leave you feeling completely relaxed for your treatment. Then you can enjoy an hour long pampering spa treatment that includes a muscle-melting back massage, a mini-facial and a soothing scalp massage. Bliss.

After a satisfying dinner in the Arlington Restaurant and a wonderful night’s sleep in your gorgeous deluxe guestroom and a delicious breakfast, you’ll leave feeling relaxed, clean, refreshed and ready to face the real world again.

The Post-Picnic Pick-Up is available to book on Monday 2nd September and costs from €199 for two people sharing. Book here or call 057 8645500
