Penneys Is Finally Going To Introduce An Online Shopping Service

Kiara Keane

Penneys has confirmed it’s planning on launching an online shopping service in the future.

Primark CEO Paul Merchant told a group of analysts that the retail giant was looking into introducing a ‘click and collect’ service across its stores.

This would mean a lot less trawling through the rails to try and find your size (we’ve all been there) and instead you could buy the item online and collect it in store later.

Fora.ie reports that that Merchant told analysts in the briefing, “Even when rolled out, a click and collect offering will only drive an incremental benefit for Primark.”

He added, “Of the top-20 retailers, which hold 70% of the UK market, Primark is the only one with no online presence, yet it has achieved the largest market share gains over the last decade.”

An analyst at the briefing commented, “It feels like it’s a year or so away and even then it’s likely to be a modest trial by region or product group.”

Earlier this month, Primark opened its largest ever store in Birmingham which is spread out over five floors, employs over 1,000 members of staff and measures 160,000 sq ft.

Primark has confirmed it plans to open 14 more new stores in 2019.
