Remember that scene in Father Ted where Ted tells Dougal he can praise God with sleep?
Well, just as miraculously, it seems that we’re all able to lose weight just by staying in bed.
According to the Irish Independent, the groundbreaking new findings have been discovered by scientists from King’s College London. They found that people who sleep longer are less likely to seek out carbs or sugary treats throughout the day.
The trial involved 21 people being ordered to keep a consistent bedtime, resist caffeine and to relax in the evenings. By the end of one week, the group had added 90 minutes to their sleep patterns on average and were eating less sugar and carbs.
Lead investigator Dr. Wendy Hall said:
“The fact that extending sleep led to a reduction in intake of free sugars – by which we mean the sugars that are added to foods by manufacturers or in cooking at home as well as sugars in honey, syrups and fruit juice – suggests that a simple change in lifestyle may really help people to consume healthier diets.”
Looks like we won’t be needing our alarm clocks anymore.
