Valentine’s Day is quickly creeping up on us, and if you don’t want to end up in the bad books you should probably get something for your other half.

The question is – how much should you spend?

Well, according to a new survey from Aldi, not very much.

Research from the budget supermarket chain has shown that a quarter of Irish people plan on forking out less than €20 on a gift for their partner.

Some 27% said they would spend between €20 and €40, while 14% are going to splash over €80.

Most respondents (72%) said receiving a card was more important than a present – good news if you’re low on funds!

People also revealed the worst Valentine’s gifts they had ever received, ranging from frying pans and irons to marshmallows with Pat Kenny’s face printed on them.

Is it weird that we kinda want those marshmallows?!
