The most popular Irish baby names of 2020 have been revealed

The Central Statistics Office has revealed the most popular boys and girls baby names of 2o20, with Jack and Grace coming out on top of the pile.

Jack maintains its position as the number one boys baby name which it has held every year since 2007, except 2016 when James was the most popular. Meanwhile, Grace has usurped Emily, which held the top girls position for nine consecutive years since 2011.

Other names in the top five for boys are (2) James, (3) Noah, (4) Daniel and (5) Conor. Completing the top five for girls are (2) Fiadh, (3) Emily, (4) Sophie and (5) Ava.

There were 3,715 different boys names used in Ireland in 2020, compared to 4,624 for girls. Sonny was the only new entry into the top 100 for boys but girls saw a number of new names enter the top 100, including Penny, Luna, Cora, Fíadh (with a fada), Croía, Elsie and Paige.
