Traveling With Your Pooch? This Mayo Spot Is The Most Pet-Friendly Destination In Ireland

James Fenton

Going away on holiday can be a stressful time for pet-owners. Many will have neighbours or friends who are only too willing to take care of their four-legged friend for a few nights but others are not so lucky.

Booking into a kennel can be an expensive business and there aren’t many hotels that will allow a pet to tag along with you on your hols. The Lodge at Ashford Castle though sees things differently.

Over the weekend, the accommodation took home the prize for ‘pet-friendly destination of the year’ at the annual Georgina Campbell awards. When you consider the services on offer, it’s no surprise that the food and hospitality guide went for this Co. Mayo spot.

The destination’s website states that rooms cater for a maximum of two dogs and the accommodation will provide ‘a comfy bed, fluffy towels, food, water bowls and their favourite treat.’

Special snacks are available too, like boiled chicken and rice for dogs and salmon on toast for the cats. With that kind of menu, they’re almost treated as well the humans are.

Dogs are welcome at a cost of €10 per night and you can read more about The Lodge’s pet policy here. No need to leave your best pal at home anymore then.
