80 year old man to complete his 44th Dublin Marathon this Sunday

Peadar is one of just 11 runners to have participated in every Dublin Marathon since the first race in 1980.

As 25,000 runners prepare to descend on Dublin city this Sunday, among them will be 80 year old Peadar Nugent who knows the route like the back of his hand at this stage.

Peadar is part of an exclusive group of runners who’ve completed all 44 Dublin Marathons, two of which were held virtually due to the covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

Originally born in Clare, Peadar worked as a high-court registrar in Dublin for 35 years before retiring in Galway.

Commending Peadar and his fellow golden marathon participants, the Dublin Marathon Twitter account posted:

“Peadar Nugent .. one of only 11 runners who are set to continue their record of running every Dublin marathon.

“Our Galway man also has the honour of being our eldest at 80 years young!

“Here’s to adding another medal to that collection”.

The 44th Dublin Marathon takes place this Sunday, 29th October, with the 26.2 mile course spanning residential and city areas both north and south of the Liffey. Since its iteration in 1980, the Dublin route has earned a place as the fourth largest marathon in Europe, with 25,000 participants expected to depart from the start line at Fitzwilliam Square Upper. There’s more information on start times and the full route right here.
