Ali Charaf Damache, an Algerian born Irish citizen, has been extradited to the United States on suspicion on conspiring to support terrorists and recruiting people to carry out terror attacks in Europe and Asia.
The Irish Times reports that Damache, whose last address is at High Street, Waterford, was indicted in 2011 in Pennsylvania on one count of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and one count of attempted identity theft to facilitate an act of international terrorism.
He is accused of conspiring with Colleen LaRose, an American woman known as Jihad Jane.
Damache was arrested in 2010 in Ireland, where he had lived for ten years, but was released after a High Court judge rejected a US request to extradite him.
He was then arrested again in Spain in 2015, and if convicted in the US could face up to 45 years in jail.
Damache previously pleaded guilty to sending a menacing phonecall to US Muslim activist Majed Moughni in January 2010, and was sentenced to four years imprisonment with the final 12 months suspended by an Irish judge.
