Energy supplier Energia has announced plans to raise the cost of their electricity by 3.9% on December 1.

The increase is set to cost customers an extra 9c per day, or €31 a year on average.

Rising wholesale gas prices and network costs have been blamed for the change.

Energia is the fourth electricity company to hike up their rates in the past few months.

On November 1st, SSE Airtricity and Bord Gais Energy’s prices will rise, followed by Electric Ireland on February 1st next year.

The public service levy also kicked in earlier this month, adding another €25 to annual bills.
