Armed Locals Chase Burglars Through Leitrim Fields – For Four Hours

People in small communities are becoming increasingly worried about criminal gangs carrying out repeated burglaries. 

Tonight’s Prime Time will investigate the issue and show CCTV footage of real crimes.  

In one incident in Co Leitrim, a group of locals chased burglars through fields for about four hours. 

After the house of publican Gerry Gorby was robbed in Newtowngore earlier this month, his customers banded together with members of the local gun club to track down the criminals. 

Some of them were armed as they pursued the men on foot after their getaway car crashed not far away from the scene of the crime. 

“We don’t know that would have happened if we came across them, that’s the frightening thing for them and for the other people in pursuit of them,” Gorby told RTE.
