A Redeveloped Penneys Set To Be Centrepiece Of Ireland’s Newest Shopping Centre

James Fenton

Shopaholics, we hope you’re sitting down.

Retail giant Penneys is set to anchor a massive new €70m development in Carlow, it has been revealed.

The project is set to bring around 225 new construction jobs to the town and will incorporate the existing Penneys store along with additional adjoining land on a site totaling 6.5 acres.

It’s thought that the project will be finished by Christmas 2018 and will create a further 800 full and part-time jobs upon completion.

Eamonn Duignan, director of Lexeme Properties who are behind the redevelopment, told Fora.ie:

“This confirmation is the culmination of many years work by both Lexeme and Penneys, and ensures the delivery of Carlow Central.”

Looks like we’ll be visiting Carlow a lot more frequently in future.
