Have you ever been?
Ireland is a country full of history, and with a lot of history, comes the potential for a lot of ghosts. All over the country there are paranormal hot-spots, locations consistently linked to spiritual activity, whether that be malevolent or not.
Betfair Bingo has collated a list of the country’s most haunted locations, with Charles Fort in Cork coming out on top.
Charles Fort was declared an Irish National Monument in 1973, a star-shaped fort that is known for its resident ghost The White Lady – known as Wilful Warrender – the daughter of the commander of Charles Fort. Sightings of the Lady have been reported many times, including one who even felt her smiling at them.
Following in second place was Ross Castle in County Kerry, which overlooks Lough Sheelin, and is known for its rustic but ghostly atmosphere the moment you step inside. You are expected to hear eerie noises of the blustery winds and knocking on the windows.
St Katherine’s Abbey in Limerick was another high contender as a haunted location to see in Ireland. The medieval abbey is an ancient ruin, with a refectory, prison cells, and a cloister among old trees, which has tales of hauntings stemmed in black magic.
Carrickfergus Castle in Antrim and Aughrim Battlefield in Galway followed in joint fourth place. Duckett’s Grove also made the top five, beating Leap Castle and The Hell Fire Club.
Situated in the Dublin Mountains, The Hell Fire Club was known as the meeting point for rituals to summon demons and even Satan himself.
