We all have our own unique takes on certain foods but it always seems like those in the public eye have the strangest demands when it comes to food.

Take former Taoiseach and Fianna Fáil leader, he enjoyed having his grapes polished until they were “shiny” according to Dáil chef.

One of the longest serving Dáil staff, Julie Lyons said that his requests were the most unusual out of all the leaders she has seen walk in and out of the door.

Speaking to Ryan Tubridy who was hosting a radio show from the Oireachtas restaurant on Thursday, Lyons said that Haughey “liked his grapes polished.”

“He liked them polished because he used to like cheese and grapes for dessert, he wasn’t a big dessert person.

“So we used to have to polish them and make them shiny. I’ve been here 27 years, I came in with Charlie Haughey.”

As for the current Taoiseach, Lyons said that he has the biggest appetite ever stating that he loves fresh fruit, salads and granolas.
