Irish Twitter awoke to the news this morning that Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae has blamed the poor road conditions on fairies.
Yes, you read that right.
The TD, who is no stranger to saying questionable and controversial things, has said that the disappearance and reappearance of a dip in a Kerry road is due to the presence of fairy forts.
According to the Irish Times, Mr. Healy-Rae is said to be of the belief that the roads passed through fairy forts and that people should stay away from them.
The Irish Times report that Mr. Healy-Rae said:
“There are numerous fairy forts in that area.I know that they are linked. Anyone that tampered with them back over the years paid a high price and had bad luck.”
This is not the first time he has brought fairy activity into question.
Back in 2007, he claimed that fairies were also to blame for a hollow in a road near Killarney.
Of course, there’s no way to prove or disprove this belief, although the road department believe there’s an underlying subsoil problem.
Hmmm.
What do you think?
