A person in distress on Flowerhill Bridge in Navan was saved when they were seen by a Meath River Rescue volunteer who was on his way back from the Darkness into Light walk on Saturday morning.

According to a Meath River Resuce facebook post the volunteer, Jamie Rennicks, and another member of the public tried to intervene when they saw the person in distress. However, the individual in distress entered the water a short time after the passersby intervened.

Jamie and the passerby kept the individual afloat with the help of nearby rings while a rescue team of first responders and swiftwater personnel travelled to the bridge.

The person is now in the care of the HSE.

Also in attendance was the Rescue Helicopter, Navan Fire and Rescue Services, Navan Gardai & the HSE Ambulance.
