Teenager Michael Stokes passed away in Temple Street Hospital following a tragic accident on Bank Holiday Saturday.

The 15-year-old became an instant hit with the entire nation following his appearance on RTÉ’s Room To Improve in 2016.

His appearance came along side the show’s host Dermot Bannon who had the task of turning Michael’s home into a wheelchair-friendly space.

Bannon took to social media today to post a tribute to the young star of the show and told RTÉ in an interview that he was truly heartbroken.

He told the National Broadcaster that:

“I’m heartbroken for Ann, Barry, his parents, his family, and anyone who knew him.

“Michael was such a big character with a huge heart filled with fun, joy and excitement. He leaves a very big void.

“I saw how he touched so many lives, those he knew and the many he never met.”

“I feel so privileged to have known him, he taught me so many things about life but most of all, don’t get caught up in all the things you can’t do or have no control over, enjoy and do your best with the things you can.”

His death notice reads: “Removal on Wednesday to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Seabury, Malahide arriving for 10 o’clock funeral mass followed by burial in Dardistown Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations, if desired, to Temple Street Hospital.”
