FREE NOW launches Cabbie Cafés for drivers working busy festive season

Katy Thornton

Almost 200,000 trips were completed by FREE NOW drivers during the first weekend of December.

As with many professions, Christmas is the busiest time of year for a taxi driver. It can be a difficult time given the sheer volume of work, with the amount of Christmas parties and events taking place, and few public transport lines available to people getting home late at night.

That’s why FREE NOW have introduced Cabbie Cafés; drive-thru cafés where their driver partners can get a free cup of coffee, a mince pie, and a chat to get them through the festive period. The first café to take part in Cabbie Cafés was Limerick, on Monday 5th December in Thomond Park.

These are the participating cafés around Ireland.

  • Cork:               Musgrave Park – 7th Dec
  • Dublin:            Box’d Coffee South Side – 8th Dec
  • Dublin:            Treat Yo’self Coffee – 8th Dec
  • Galway:          Galway Sports Ground – 14th Dec

Cabbie Cafés is open between 1:30pm and 5:30pm on these dates.

FREE NOW Ireland Regional Development Manager, Denis Fogarty, says this of Cabbie Cafés:

We’re very grateful to our fleet of driver partners who go the extra mile to help meet passenger demand during peak times. We hope that plenty of drivers will enjoy some festive treats at our pop-up cafés across the country, and also benefit from our recently launched €3 million Christmas bonus fund to help incentivise drivers to complete trips during high-demand periods.”

As well as Cabbie Cafés, FREE NOW will be supporting driver partners throughout December with its €3 million Christmas bonus fund which has been launched to incentivise drivers to work during busy periods. Drivers can avail of the bonus fund by completing journeys during peak hours; this gives them the opportunity to increase their monthly earnings by €600.
