There Will Be Heavy Rain Across Ireland Tonight Before ‘Gale Force Winds’ Later In The Week

James Fenton

If you left your brolly at home today you might want to leave work a tad early to avoid getting soaked.

Met Éireann is forecasting ‘heavy, thundery rain’ which will spread eastwards across the country tonight, bringing ‘hail and sleet in places.’ Carlow Weather backs this up while adding a wintry flavour by predicting that a ‘band of rain will move across the country this evening and it will fall as sleet and possibly snow on very high ground.’

Moving on to later in the week, Thursday night will be ‘wet and blustery with outbreaks of rain and fresh, gusty south to southwest winds’ but it seems that’s just a precursor for what Friday will bring.

Apparently, the day after tomorrow will be ‘very windy with strong to gale force southwest winds and severe gusts.’ As well as that, ‘rain in the morning will clear eastwards with heavy showers following for the rest of the day.’

As things stand the weekend looks slightly better with Saturday being ‘bright and breezy with sunny spells and scattered showers.’

You have to put up with the rain to see the rainbow, eh? A more detailed outlook can be found here.
