Year in, year out, we overestimate how prepared we are for Christmas.
We decide early in the year that we won’t let the stress of Christmas get to us, and that we will be the most chilled out, organised person in the country.
But then the festive season creeps up out of nowhere, and suddenly you’re scrambling around the shops with presents and food piled up in the trolley.
The key to beating the Christmas rush, is to plan ahead.
And take into account your local supermarket opening times…
Dunnes Stores
Like most shops and supermarkets across the country, Dunnes Stores will be closed on Christmas Day, Stephen’s Day and New Years Day.
But we can’t complain, because they’re giving us plenty of time before then to get in and buy our Christmas goodies, with some shops staying open until 10:00pm or 12:00am in the run up to the big day.
Head here to check out your local Dunnes Stores opening hours over the festive season. Normal opening hours will return on Tuesday, 2 January.
Marks & Spencer
Similarly to Dunnes, all M&S stores will be closed on Christmas and New Years Day.
However, some shops will reopen on Stephen’s Day, including their branch on Mary Street in Dublin city centre.
Check out specific M&S store’s opening hours here.
Lidl
All Lidl stores nationwide will be closed on Christmas Day and Stephen’s Day this year.
They will be open for shoppers looking for last minute bits and pieces on Christmas Eve until 6:00pm, and open until 7:00pm on New Years Eve.
SuperValu

Aldi
Aldi stores nationwide will close on Christmas Day, Stephen’s Day and New Years Day.
They will open from 9:00am to 10:00pm every day this week up until Saturday 23, as well as opening from 9:00am to 7:00pm on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.
