It could be bad news for a lotĀ of Irish people who currently hide under the bed and turn off all the lights when the TV license inspector comes around, because RTĆ director-general Dee Forbes has said that she plans to reform the licence fee collection system.
Currently, Ireland has one of the highest evasion rates in Europe, with an estimatedĀ ā¬30 million to ā¬40 millionĀ lost each year due to people dodging their TV license fee.
Ms Forbes also originally noted that the licence fee cost 40 cent a day, and said thatĀ āI think itās incredible value for money,ā she said.Ā
āQuite honestly I think it should be double that.ā
Don’t freak out though, because she later went on to change her mind on that, so no fear of having to shell out even more for your telly.
Just be warned; itĀ doesĀ look likely that there will be some changes coming in regards to how the fee is collected, so your once-removed, second cousin *cough cough*, who lives down the road will have to pay for his beloved viewing.
The changes comes as the national broadcaster is apparently forced to make a series of cuts, including up to 250 redundancies.
