The Irish Sun reports that an unhappily married, Irish couple who are trapped in their own home have agreed on court approved bans from each other’s bedrooms and bathrooms in the same house.

They have been married for 40 years.

Court reporter, Gordon Deegan, states that the deal was reached after the woman decided not to proceed with a Safety Order application against her husband.

This kind of order “prohibits the violent person from further violence or threats of violence.”

The woman in question said that she had been receiving verbal abuse from her husband for the past ten years.

The woman stated in court that she shouldn’t have to put up with this kind of treatment to which her husband replied: “She has said as much to me as I have said to her. All I want is the use of my bedroom and the use of my bathroom, up and down to the kitchen – that is all.”

It was described as an “incredibly sad case”.
