A new report suggests that Ryan Tubridy could earn as much as €100,000 a year in his new UK radio presenting job.
For months, speculation had mounted as to what would be next for the presenter after his departure from RTÉ last summer following the broadcaster’s secret payments scandal.
However, on Thursday (16 November), Virgin Radio UK revealed that the Irish presenter will helm the mid-morning show on the station from 10am to 1pm Monday to Friday from early January 2024.
Irish listeners will also be able to tune into Tubridy from 10am every weekday on Dublin’s Q102.
On top of this, he will also present a dedicated Irish weekend show across the stations Dublin’s Q102, Cork’s 96FM, Live 95 in Limerick and LMFM.

How much will Ryan Tubridy earn in new UK radio job?
Speaking about the move, Tubridy said in a statement: “I couldn’t be more excited to start this new chapter with Virgin Radio.
“New city, new station, new beginnings. I love radio and what a joy to be following the legendary Chris Evans every morning!”
And Tubridy even got an unexpected congratulatory message from Hollywood A-lister Russell Crowe, with the Oscar winner writing on Twitter: “Big news for my man Ryan Tubridy. In a genius move, Virgin Radio UK have signed him to follow Chris Evans show from January.
“Two of the best broadcasters ever. A massive 1-2 combination. I love how radio in the UK is so potent.”

Ryan Tubridy’s new radio deal
A new report from The Irish Mirror, meanwhile, suggests that Tubridy – who was the highest-paid presenter at RTÉ for several years – could earn between €70,000 and €100,000 a year in his new UK radio gig.
An unnamed insider source told the outlet: “His profile just isn’t big enough in the UK, but he could be taking home between €70k to €100k. It’s great for him though.
“He will really have to start from the bottom and work his way to the top again.”
In an exclusive interview with The Irish Sun, Tubridy credited much that went with securing his new role to his long-time agent Noel Kelly.
The presenter told the paper: “Noel negotiated the best deal. He is the best in the business and always was… and he’s got on extremely well with the management here at Virgin.”
Asked about possibly ever returning to RTÉ, The Irish Sun reports that Tubridy ruled it out with a gentle laugh – stating: “In a word: ‘no’.”
“I don’t see any reason to go back there because I am starting a new beginning here,” he added. “Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying: ‘Oh, that place,’ because I had 20 years of lovely experience on TV in Ireland.”
The presenter also said: “I feel that RTÉ is in my rear-view mirror.”
