Katie Taylor’s First World Title Defence Will Be Shown Live On Regular TV Tonight

James Fenton

Katie Taylor takes centre stage tonight as she defends her WBA Women’s Lightweight World Title for the first time.

Having won the belt in October, Katie will headline a fight card for the first time since turning pro last year. She will come up against American Jessica McCaskill who has a decent record of one defeat in six professional bouts.

Luckily, and unusually for viewers in Ireland, we’ll be able to watch Katie do battle from the comfort of our living rooms as Sky Sports Mix will be showing the fight. The channel is available to both Virgin (channel 400) and Sky (channel 121) customers.

Sky Sports Mix will be airing the whole card from 6pm. However, as there are five fights on the undercard, Katie isn’t expected to enter the ring until around 10pm.

In the build-up to the fight, McCaskill has attempted to enter into a war of words with the Bray boxer by questioning the level of her previous opponents. Taylor has a 100% win rate from her seven professional fights.

Katie’s promoter Eddie Hearn feels that should she be successful tonight, her next fight could be in Dublin in March or April.

Will Katie get the job done? Tune in tonight to find out.
