The pub is owned by the Duffy family and has served the local community for decades, and speaking to RTÉ News family member Joe said his elderly parents and siblings are lost for words. "The memories of a lifetime are gone, people loved Mam and Dad, loved this pub. There was 11 pubs here once and only a handful remain. But at the end of the day everyone survived and that's what matters most," Joe told the publication. Emergency services attended the scene and Main Street in Kilkelly closed as a result of the building collapse. Power in the village was knocked out as a result of the incident, but has since been fully restored.
