The five people have been hospitalised following the building collapse earlier today.

Five people have been hospitalised with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries after a building collapsed in the small village of Kilkelly, Mayo.

As reported by the Irish Times, local residents heard a loud crash just after 9am and saw that the 100 year old Duffy’s pub had collapsed onto the street and onto a nearby site where works are understood to have been taking place.

A family had been staying in an Airbnb above the pub and were inside as the building collapsed, and locals have said it was a “miracle” there were no fatalities.

The pub is owned by the Duffy family and has served the local community for decades, and speaking to RTÉ News family member Joe said his elderly parents and siblings are lost for words.

“The memories of a lifetime are gone, people loved Mam and Dad, loved this pub. There was 11 pubs here once and only a handful remain. But at the end of the day everyone survived and that’s what matters most,” Joe told the publication.

Emergency services attended the scene and Main Street in Kilkelly closed as a result of the building collapse. Power in the village was knocked out as a result of the incident, but has since been fully restored.
