Met Eireann issues national snow warning ahead of ‘widespread wintry showers’ on Monday and Tuesday

If it’s not one thing it’s another. Storm Ciara is passing through Ireland this Sunday but once she’s finished, we’ll have a snow and ice warning to contend with.

Storm Ciara has brought extreme gusts to Ireland today and to prove it, people have been documenting her work on social media. With today being Sunday, many will be happy to stay on the sofa but for people returning to work tomorrow, a fresh warning issued by Met Eireann may have an effect.

The status yellow snow/ice warning was issued at midday today and is valid from a minute past midnight tonight until 11.59 on Tuesday. The advisory applies to the whole of the Republic and reads: ‘Widespread wintry showers on Monday and Tuesday with some snowfall accumulations, especially in the west and north. Some disruption to travel is possible, particularly over higher routes.’

As well as that, a status yellow wind warning due to Storm Ciara has been extended to midday on Monday.

Cancellations have already taken place at Dublin Airport today and it seems like things won’t settle down any time soon. You can keep up to date with Met Eireann’s forecasts and warnings here.
