NPHET has recommended level 5 restrictions for the whole country

James Fenton

NPHET has this evening recommended that the whole of Ireland moves into risk level 5 of Covid-19 restrictions.

A meeting was held earlier this evening during which NPHET discussed the increasing levels of Covid-19 and what Ireland’s next step should be. RTE is now reporting that it has been recommended to the Government that Ireland should move into level 5, which is the highest level of restrictions outlined in the Living with Covid plan.

A letter has been sent to Government tonight to outline the recommendations and the three party leaders will seek to meet with Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan to discuss the details.

This would mean that there would be no social or family gatherings allowed in homes and all bars and restaurants will only be allowed to provide takeaway and delivery services.

Gyms, pools and leisure centres would be closed and only essential retail outlets will be open. Under the plan, it says that level 5 recommendations for schools and childcare would be based on ‘situation and evidence at the time’.

On Saturday evening, 613 new cases of Covid-19 were reported, followed by 364 on Sunday.
