PIC: NASA Has Released This Insane Aerial Photo Of Ireland’s Gorse Fires

Sarah

Ireland’s recent dry weather has meant that the land has become fairly flammable, and gorse fires in country areas have been wreaking havoc all over the country.

In the past month there’s been hundreds of gorse fires across the island of Ireland, and since Monday 1st May 2017 – 8th May 2017 Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has attended 511 gorse fires – of which 466 were started deliberately. Yikes.

Most of the 30 or so ongoing fires are around the outside portion of the island are in Roscommon and Sligo, with the most significant firein Cloosh Valley, Galway, which has burned 3,500 hectares (8648 acres) of forest and bog land.

We’ve all seen the crazy photos of the blazes, but NASA has taken things one step further and released an aerial photo of Ireland in which you can see the flames alllll the way from space.

The images were taken aboard the Terra satellite on May 8th, and show the devastation caused.

Firefighters have only just won the battle against the Galway blaze today.
