Prince Charles Is Coming To Ireland In May

James Fenton

Prince Charles is set to take in a trip to Kilkenny as part of his forthcoming whistle-stop tour of the EU, the Kilkenny People are reporting.

According to the publication, shops and other city centre premises have been visited as part of security measures in the city.

Kilkenny’s Paul Smithwick, a descendant of the famous brewing family, is believed to have issued the invitation after being awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s New Year’s honours List.

Mr. Smithwick received the award for his services to British-Irish relations having set up Bonds of Friendship which brings together members of An Garda Síochána, the PSNI, the Irish Army and the British army regiment the Irish Guards on an annual basis.
