Popular British pub chain JD Wetherspoon intends to sell off several of its pubs in Ireland – in counties Cork, Waterford, Galway and Carlow.
An Geata Arundel in Arundel Square in Waterford, The Linen Weaver in Paul Street, Cork and The Tullow Gate in Tullow Street, Carlow are all up for sale. The former Carbon Night Club in Galway’s Eglington Street, which is currently not trading, is also included in the portfolio.
The property which formerly housed Carbon has recently been granted planning permission for a licensed premises and restaurant use.
The guided price for the property portfolio is over €10 million. Savills and CBRE have been jointly appointed to the sale by JD Wetherspoon.

Stephen McCarthy of Savills said: “The Wetherspoon portfolio offers a rare opportunity to acquire an exceptional collection of landmark licensed properties in some of the most coveted locations in the country,” he said.
“Accordingly, we anticipate the portfolio will appeal to a broad cross-section of hospitality groups seeking to scale their existing operation and benefit from the extensive investment which has already being committed to these assets.”
Savills said that the sale will not affect other Wetherspoon properties in Ireland.
The company opened its first Irish pub, The Three Tun Tavern in Blackrock, in late 2013 with a €1.5 million deal. It sold off the premises last year.
Wetherspoon’s will continue to operate its other premises in Dublin, including The Forty Foot in Dún Laoghaire, The Great Wood in Blanchardstown, The Old Borough Hotel and pub in Swords, The Silver Penny on Lower Abbey Street, and the Keavan’s Port Hotel and pub on Upper Camden Street.
