It’s referred to as one of the world’s most scenic marathons and anyone who’s familiar with Connemara will know why.

The 16th annual ‘Connemarathon’ takes place on Sunday April 23rd and judging by these pictures it looks like a spectacular way to keep your fitness up.

The race gives participants the chance to take part in half marathon, marathon or ultra marathon (39.3 miles) formats along the stunning Wild Atlantic Way.

More than 3,000 runners and walkers are expected to take part in a challenging course that will encounter bogs, hills, lakes, and the twelve pins mountain range, rising up over the great expanse of Killary Lough, through the sleepy village of Leenane, around the Maam Turk Mountains and all the way up to Maam Cross.

In 2016 participants came from 28 different countries to experience the stunning course and everything the local area has to offer.
