A goal scored by Jordan Flores for Dundalk has been nominated for the FIFA Puskas Award, which is given to the scorer of the ‘most aesthetically significant, or “most beautiful”, goal of the calendar year.’
Jordan Flores’ goal was scored in Dundalk’s Premier Division game against Shamrock Rovers on February 28 of this year. At the time, clips of the volley went viral around the world, with the midfielder’s strike being noted for its technical brilliance.
There are a total of 11 nominees on the list for this year and Flores is in esteemed company alongside the likes of Luis Suárez, Son Heung-min, André-Pierre Gignac and Caroline Weir. Previous winners of the award include Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Irish fans will remember Stephanie Roche making the top three in 2014 before finishing runner-up to James Rodríguez.
