The latest on a potential storm hitting our shores later this week

James Fenton

People are being warned not to make outdoor plans for Thursday or Friday with a storm potentially hitting our shores on those days.

Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather has been tracking events and has posted to say that ‘latest ECWMF charts continue to bring storm system over Ireland Thursday and Friday with a risk of strong gusts, especially in West and South. Still a lot of uncertainty though as not all models agree.’ He added that ‘this could also bring some heavy spells of rain. So if you are making plans for Thursday and Friday be aware of the risk of wet and windy weather.’

He issued another update last night to say that ‘the higher resolution models will have a better idea Wednesday morning’ and for their part, Met Éireann are saying that Thursday will be ‘wet and windy with showery rain accompanied by fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds as gales develop along southern coasts.’

It doesn’t sound too promising for anyone who wants to head out on Thursday but like Alan said, we’ll know more tomorrow. Follow updates from Met Éireann here.
