Gardaí Announce Number Of Roads Across Ireland Affected By Black Ice

Darragh Berry

Anyone who waited for a bus this morning or had to walk even just a couple of seconds to somewhere knows just exactly how cold it is today in Ireland.

As we said earlier, it’s only going to get worse as the week goes on and to further demonstrate that, An Garda Siochána have taken to Twitter to release a list of roads in Ireland which have been severely affected by black ice on Tuesday morning.

Their tweet reads: “W/MeathTraffic: Pls [sic] take extra care on the roads today due to Black Ice on the roads. Increase your braking distance and allow extra time for your journey. Roads affected are Killaskillen in Kinnegad, Robinstown link Rd, Mullingar & Castledaly Rd in Moate. #WinterReady”

Black ice is often invisible to the naked eye which means that when you’re driving on the road, it is almost impossible to look out for it.

Black ice is especially prominent in sheltered and shaded areas on roads, under trees, under or on bridges and adjacent to high walls.

For more information on how to get your car “Winter Ready” as Gardaí state in their tweet, they have an abundance of information on their website
