You can’t go a weekend scrolling through Instagram without seeing at least one snap of the dish of 2017 – Avocado Toast.
Restaurants have all tried to put their own spin on it, economists have blamed it for why millennials can’t afford houses, and basically we’ve all just gone avocado mad.
There’s a new food trend that’s apparently going to be ‘hot new thing’ we’ll all be putting pics of on the ‘gram though.
It’s Pandan, a tropical plant from South East Asia that has a sweet flavour and is used in cooking (typically sweet dishes and rice).
Here’s why we’re apparently gonna go mad for it
Nigella Lawson herself recently told The Times that she loves the thing, and last time Nigella said she loved avocado sales shot up by more than 30% and a trend was born.
“I may be wrong,2 she said, “but we seem to be interested in that (pandan). It’s not in Waitrose. I don’t know where it is in this country yet. But I notice more and more people in America baking with pandan essence. Which comes from that leaf.”
Most of the recipes you’ll find online are for pandan pancakes or muffins, and the plant gives a bright green colour to the food.
We haven’t seen it anywhere in Ireland just yet, but sure we’re always the last to pick up on anything new… Would you be up for giving this a go for brunch?
