To be honest, I thought they’d be in there already…

Thin Lizzy has been nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.

The band, once fronted by the late Phil Lynott, has been nominated alongside 15 other acts including The Notorious B.I.G,  Judas Priest, MC5, Motorhead, Nine Inch Nails, Whitney Houston, Dave Matthews Band and more.

In order to be nominated, an artist must have released their first commercial body of work at least 25 years prior to the nomination.

First, there is a public vote, which is open until January 10, 2020. This is taken into account along with an artist’s musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and bodies of work, innovation and superiority in style and technique.

After all of this is taken into consideration by a panel of 1,000 historians, musicians and people in the music industry, the official list of inductees announced during a ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio on May 2, 2020.

Other well-known Irish acts who already have a place in the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame include U2 (2005) and Van Morrison (1993).

Recently, An Post released commemorative stamps to mark 50 years of Thin Lizzy at a special event at the GPO.

Designed by Steve Averill, they depict Thin Lizzy’s Black Rose album cover and a portrait of Phil Lynott.
