Well that may well be that.
While it’s not all over until the fat lady sings, the Republic Of Ireland’s qualification hopes for the World Cup in Russia next year have certainly taken a turn for the worse after tonight’s home defeat to Serbia.
Despite a much-improved performance, and a very legitimate penalty shout which the referee turned down, the Boys In Green lost 1-0 to Serbia thanks to a second half goal from Aleksandar Kolarov.
It now looks like we will have to beat both Moldova at home and Wales away in our final two games to keep our qualification hopes alive. To say we’re all a bit gutted is an understatement but sure look, we’ve pulled it out the bag on a few occasions before!
Here’s how the fans reacted online.
Disappointing result but good performance. Lets not forget Georgia could bail us out of bother again #COYBIG #IRLSER #RTEsoccer
