UK Figures Reveal The Number Of Irish Women Who Traveled For An Abortion Last Year

A new report released by the UK Department Of Health has revealed the number of women with Irish addressed traveling for abortions in England and Wales. 

In 2016, 4,810 women from outside the UK received abortions there. 68% of this number were from the Republic while a further 15% were from the North.

In total, 3,265 women gave a Republic Of Ireland address while 724 listed their home to be in Northern Ireland. 

This compares to 3,451 who gave and address in the Republic and 833 who gave an address in the North in 2015.

Ten girls aged under 16 traveled to England or Wales for an abortion last year. 

The report shows that 1,175 women gave addresses in Dublin, 241 had addresses in Cork with 130 giving an address in Kildare.
