The daughter of medicinal cannabis campaigner Vera Twomey will begin her treatment in The Netherlands today.
The case has gained national awareness in recent months mostly due to Vera's tireless campaigning on behalf of seven-year-old Ava who suffers from a severe form of epilepsy called Dravet Syndrome.
Cork woman Vera gained widespread support earlier this year when she undertook a walk from her native city to the Dáil in Dublin to meet with Health Minister Simon Harris.
Last night she shared a video on Facebook confirming that Ava would begin receiving CBD and THC medication today. In it, she speaks of the confusion of Dutch doctors when they were told that these kinds of treatments aren't available in Ireland.
