What is Level 5? Here’s what restrictions will be in place if the country moves to Level 5

Level 5

The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) has recommended level 5 restrictions for the whole country.

A meeting was held late yesterday evening to discuss the rising number of cases across the country with public health officials recommending that Ireland should move into risk level 5 – the highest level of restrictions on the government’s Living with Covid scheme.

The three party leaders will meet with Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan today to make a decision on the matter.

What restrictions will be in place if the country moves to Level 5?

While nothing definite has been confirmed as of yet, if government decide to enforce NPHET’S recommendation and move the whole country to Level 5, the below restrictions will apply:

  • No household visitors
  • No social or family gatherings – except funerals/weddings
  • Maximum of six guests at a wedding
  • Maximum of 10 people at a funeral
  • No indoor gatherings
  • No sports fixtures/matches/events
  • Restaurants/cafes/bars can stay open but for takeaway or delivery only
  • Gyms, leisure centre and swimming pools will all close
  • Religious services will resume online

People will be asked not to leave the house unless absolutely necessary or when exercising within a 5km radius of their homes.

It’s believed that all educational facilities (schools, creches and universities) will remain open.

The recommendation comes after 613 new cases of Covid-19 were reported on Saturday with a further 364 on Sunday.
