It’s not quite Colby Covington levels of support but UFC superstar Conor McGregor has revealed that he is also an admirer of Donald Trump.
Fresh from his flawless 40-second victory over Donald Cerrone in the main event of UFC 246 on Saturday night, Conor McGregor threw his support behind the divisive president of the United States of America.
McGregor was responding to Trump’s tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. on MLK Day, which coincided with Trump highlighting his own achievements in reducing unemployment among African-Americans in the USA.
Phenomenal President. Quite possibly the USA 🐐. Most certainly one of them anyway, as he sits atop the shoulders of many amazing giants that came before him. No easy feet.
Early stages of term also.
Incredible.
Congrats and Happy Martin Luther King Jr. day America 🇺🇸❤️🇮🇪— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) January 21, 2020
McGregor hailed Trump as a “phenomenal president” before suggesting that he may possibly be the greatest president in American history.
Last week, in the build-up to his UFC comeback, McGregor was not as polarising as he once was as he displayed a respectful and humble demeanour in the days leading up to his welterweight clash with ‘Cowboy’.
However announcing oneself as a Trump supporter was always sure to divide opinion and the replies to McGregor’s show of support prove just that.
After not fighting at all last year, McGregor intends to make up for lost time in 2020 and having sustained no damage in the Cerrone bout, ‘The Notorious’ wants to get right back into the Octagon before the summer.
McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh revealed that we should expect a quick turnaround from his most famous fighter.
“I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t compete before the summer,” Kavanagh told ESPN. “He’s definitely gonna be competing before the summer.”
