Lonely Planet have come out with their best travel destinations for 2024, and Ireland has made it, with Donegal ranking as the 4th best region to visit worldwide. Ireland’s most northern county beat out regions such as Pais Vasco in Spain, Southern Thailand, and Montana in the United States.
This is what Lonely Planet had to say of the Donegal region:
“With the longest coastline in Ireland and more than 100 beaches, the northernmost Irish county is purely wild with a big heart. The highest sea cliffs in Europe, miles of un-spoilt coastal hiking trails along the Wild Atlantic Way, ancient forts, musical traditions, and rich heritage of the Irish language make it perfect for the curious visitor.”
Lonely Planet highlighted the sea cliffs at Sliabh Liag, swimming at the horseshoe-shaped Silver Strand cove, and Malin Head, where the northern lights can sometimes be seen, as must-visit locations for anyone thinking of travelling to this area of Ulster.
