The top 50 Christmas markets in the world have been named

James Fenton

‘Tis the season to be jolly and also visit as many Christmas markets as you can.

Of course, it would be impossible to visit them all over the course of one festive season unless you had some kind of magic sleigh that allows you to travel the world in the space of one evening. But that would be ridiculous.

Regardless, Big 7 Travel has provided us with the perfect bucket list of festive markets with its 50 Best Christmas Markets In The World chart. The travel company has taken all the best outdoor spots to have a mulled wine and pick up some gifts in 2019 and sure it’s never too late to book a flight and check one of them out.

Sadly, there is no Irish representation in the list but our neighbours across the water have gotten the nod with Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh all making the top 20.

Coming out on top is Leavenworth in Washington over in the States, which is described as a ‘Bavarian-styled village in the Cascade Mountains.’ Visitors can enjoy wandering around ‘Alpine lodge buildings and hotels’ with Bavarian beer and food and sweet treats on offer to tickle the tastebuds.

Finishing just behind Leavenworth was Birmingham in England which would be handy for us as a quick getaway. The Christmas market in Zagreb, Croatia came third followed by Vienna in fourth place and Stellenbosch in South Africa in fourth.

The entire list can be read here and makes for perfect winter getaway planning for the years ahead.
