This Award Winning Bakery Is Introducing Something Very, Very Clever

Sarah

Nowadays it seems more and more that cash is king, and I think we can all agree that there’s a real element of wastefulness in today’s society.

You might have a load of old clothes but need new kitchen stuff, while someone else vice versa, but instead of being able to do a straight swap you feed further in to the cash economy by both just buying what you need.

Which is why the ancient concept of bartering is not to be sniffed at.

And now Firehouse Bakery is doing just that

Based in Wicklow, this incredible award-winning bakery uses a wood fired oven to turn out sweet and savoury treats, from sourdough loaves to pecan pies.

They’ve also just announced that they’re going to re-introduce their bartering system (hurrah!), meaning customers can trade any homegrown fruit, veggies, or herbs in exchange for their freshly baked breads and pastries.

We LOVE the common sense idea behind this.

Not only does local trade like this seriously reduce food waste, it also helps to create a closer community vibe, as people get to know each other over chats as they barter and swap yummy goods.

Nice one, Firehouse, nice one.
