Irish village welcomes host of Hollywood A-listers for film shoot

James Fenton

The residents of Malin Head are used to being at the very top of Ireland but this week they’re getting a taste of what it’s like to rub shoulders with those at the summit of the Hollywood movie industry.

The most northerly point of mainland Ireland, Malin Head has opened its doors to a number of Hollywood A-listers including Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Ethan Hawke, Bill and Alexander Skarsgård and even Icelandic singer Björk.

The crew have landed on Donegal’s shores to film upcoming Viking epic The Northman, which is being directed by Robert Eggers of The Witch and The Lighthouse fame. The movie will be set in 10th century Iceland so naturally, the rugged landscape of Malin Head is seen as the ideal spot to replicate the setting.

Locals are sure to be excited to see the likes of Kidman and Pennywise the Clown himself Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd wandering around the area. However, with the autumn chill now creeping in, it’s a far cry from the sunny climes of Beverly Hills.

The Northman is expected to be released in 2022.
