The Dunmore East Bluegrass Festival Is The One Event You Should Go To This Weekend

James Fenton

If you’ve ever been to Dunmore East, you probably won’t need much convincing to go back again.

With its rugged coastline, variety of watersports and fine selection of pubs, the Co. Waterford town is one the best places to head to in Ireland for a couple of days of rest and relaxation.

Of course, this applies to any time of the year but if you really want to enjoy a whole weekend of craic agus ceol then the last weekend in August is definitely the best time to visit Dunmore. Every year, people come from all over Ireland and beyond to enjoy the town’s Bluegrass Festival which takes place over four days and features the best in the business when it comes to the Bluegrass genre.

If you enjoy the twang of a banjo and an eclectic mix of blues, country and honky-tonk tunes then there’ll be no better place this weekend. This year sees the International Bluegrass Festival return to the south east for the 25th year. Pretty much all of Dunmore’s venues will be playing host to live music throughout the weekend, including The Strand which we’ve already described as being one of the best places to enjoy an outdoor pint in Ireland.

Leading the way will be The 19th Street Band (featured in the header image to this article and the below video) as well as The Blue Light Smugglers, Liz Moriondo, Raglan Rodeo, Kiss My Grass and a whole lot more.

The whole thing kicks off this Thursday and if you’ve got a day or two to spare over the weekend, the Dunmore East International Bluegrass Festival comes highly recommended. I should know as I’ve attended a couple of times in recent years and ended up hooked.

More information on this year’s event can be found here.
