“Recent price hikes in our restaurant were painful for me.”

Sad news for Cork locals as beloved steakhouse The Wild Goose have announced their impending closure, after 22 years in business.

They took to Facebook to announce the news, giving details on when exactly the plan to close for good.

“After 22 years of operating the Restaurant, we believe it’s time to cease trading. It takes a lot of energy to run a business like ours. As the years go on, the more difficult it becomes.”

Like many other hospitality businesses before them, the reason that The Wild Goose have come to this difficult decision was ultimately down to rising costs.

“Recent escalating energy and food prices, along with planned VAT increases has put a lot of pressure on the economics of running our Restaurant.

“Recent price hikes in our restaurant were painful for me, as we believe eating out, has only a certain value. Further price increases, we believe, will make our product too expensive and we are not willing to keep rising [sic] prices.”

The Wild Goose will close their doors for good after service on Sunday, September 3rd, giving loyal customers just over a month to have one last steak there.
